Got a shock this afternoon, the fraud team at my bank phoned me to ask if I had made a large payment this morning with my card, to the tune of ?1400 , the obvious answer was no, seeing as I start work at 8 in the morning and these transactions, 14 payments @ ?100 each took place in quick succession from around 9am.

The card has been with me in my wallet all day. > >

I'm VERY careful at where I use my card and never let it out of my site, having spoken to the people at the fraud team it would appear that the skimmers have made a copy of my card or just used the card number to make transactions. The likely story is Internet fraud.

I now feel that some robbing bastard has invaded my privacy, I cannot access my account for at least a week because a new card will take a week to arrive. OK I will get the money back, but it has really knocked my confidence in Internet shopping and using a card online, which I have not had a problem with for years. I do have a good firewall system installed.

I'm very grateful that the bank has been so helpful and inter sectored this fraud when they did.

This just goes out as a warning, you can NEVER be too careful, whether it be online or on the high street.

So much for the millions spent on chip-and-pin 'making credit card fraud harder'.....my a**e. >

Sorry to hear that Leaat. You must be feeling gutted to say the least. I know I would be.

Its just the hassle that gets me and the thought of someone accessing your account, the bank has been really helpful and have given me the web site where all the transactions came from, Ive just had a look at the site and it looks very dodgy indeed, something to do with money transfers, more like theft.

It happened to me a couple of years ago. They cancelled the card and issued a new one, but the real pain was the increased security on the account afterwards. I couldn't buy a packet of paper clips without them having to get an authorisation code and quite a few legitimate purchases were declined.
