TOPIC: How things have changed

How things have changed 5 years, 1 month ago #1

One of my earliest memories of being a child in the 50's was when my Mam had to call out the doctor because my younger sister was ill. This involved dragging out all three kids to the phone box and after being answered by the doctors, you couldn't speak until you had fed four old pennies into the slot. That outing was an adventure that I still remember. Contrast that with this evening, I have just purchased a pair of wireless headphones and a DVD from Amazon. I then booked train ticket to London for the Roger Waters Shows in May after having already booked the concert tickets and hotel on line. While I was at it I purchased an unlimited London Underground travel ticket. I then booked hotel accommodation for the Dudley Castle gig. I then checked the 'notaussiefloyd' only to find that Scott fro Atlanta, Georgia in America, is also coming over that gig. I then booked concert tickets for Dudley and remembered that I will be meeting Yot at the Summer Pops at Aintree so I booked tickets for that gig as well. I'm sure the younger members of the forum will think 'what's the fuss' but for me I find it absolutely amazing.

Phil - what's all the fuss man ?  ;D

But you're right it's really only recently that all that is possible, within the last ten years say.

I remember sending transatlantic emails about 12 years ago when arranging to go to a friends wedding and thinking that was amazing that I could get a reply back in a few mins. Even in those days the World Wide Web was still in it's infancy and not really "World Wide".

Mind you it's not all for the best, only 4 years ago I had to take all my kids over to Bury late one Sunday evening to the NHS walk-in centre because there's no such thing as a doctor call out anymore  as my youngest was ill >

The shame of it is, as phones have become the size of a credit card, my wife's credit card statement has become the size of a phone box.
