TOPIC: Prince Harry and Iraq

Prince Harry and Iraq 5 years, 1 month ago #1

Just came off a very late night session of PC online gaming, this leaves me alert and looking for more stimulation.  Uh OH!

So what about the current UK dilemma of Prince Harry wanting to go into battle? The MoD have a point, he would be a juicy target and would put those in the immediate vicinity of him in extra danger as well ... but fair play to the young Guy, he wants to go out there, or so we are told.

It seems like Yesterday he was at a night club with a swastika arm band, but ... apparently, he's now highly trained and capable of leading troops into battle in the quagmire that is Iraq ..... I really don't think so!

My prediction is, Harry wont go anywhere near a place he might get hurt or even bruised, this is a far cry from the old days when nations had their King lead them into battle, now we mollycoddle them, promote them each birthday (as with Prince Charles) and put them on an even higher pedestal.

I honestly wonder, what is the point of wasting money training Harry in the military, if we are scared to send him to combat?

In Fairness ... Prince Andrew flew helicopters in the Gulf war conflict, but again, if you read the history books, he was very well protected and shielded from any danger..

Discuss.

Totally agree there Colin, just what is the point training ANY royal in the armed forces because,  if push come to shove they will not go onto the front line, unlike in the past.  Why is it you see Royals with a laple full of gong's?? They have NEVER seen any battle in their lives.

If Harry wants to go then he should, but he will be a huge target and no doubt will be well protected.

Agree here, but it's a real dilema about potentially putting others around him at risk.

He certainly was in the Falklands war, although not sure he was in the first Gulf war?

Stop the hype,just send him.
If the war in Iraq is good enough for our army to fight in the first place then its good enough for any serving officer regardless of family back ground.
We can't send the Prince he might  get hurt ? Bollocks ,our boys and girls are dying. If it's alright for them then it's alright for royalty !

But Steve what do you think about the real threat to the other soldiers serving with him.
Are we nearly there yet?

You are correct, my apology's go to Prince Andrew in this instance, he served in the Falklands conflict, not the Gulf, but he was still highly protected, looking back, his ship was on the very perimeter of the war zone, he was safe from the exocet missiles and Argentinian Aircraft attack, looks like the MoD were playing it safe then as well ... looking back, that was a very expensive publicity stunt to the cost of us ... UK tax payers.

But yeah, I'm well cheesed off with this latest Royalty stunt, no way Harry goes to Iraq, no way he has matured from yob to (whatever high rank he is just now) in such a short time ... Harry can say all he likes, but deep down he knows he's never going to be in any danger whatsoever, he's going to wrack up a lot of medal's and promotions very soon though, heck if Prince Charles gets an automatic promotion every birthday, why cant Harry? Must admit, not to sure what the other young son is doing just now, what's his name ...William? But he seems a far more reserved guy, More like his mother ... if I have to pay for the damn Royals, then he's a good ambassador in my book, Harry and Charles, and indeed the Queen are a total embarrassment IMHO.

Hmm, what about this scenario? we put Harry in the middle of a safe place like the Sahara desert, put a up few signs saying Baghdad 50 miles, or Baghdad this way (with an arrow pointing in the wrong direction of course) give him a gun with blank bullets (and a Butler of course) train up some guys to look like traditional Enemy, Turbans and Veils would be good, then let Harry rip at them, you can imagine the conversation between him and the Butler ...

Butler  By Jove, that was a sharp shot sir, think you got the blighter there!.

Seriously though, my perception of the Royal family is at an all time low, war is a serious business, its still a horrible thing, but ... if we put our young men out to do battle, then Prince Harry should get exactly the same treatment as our regular Guys, no room for celeb's in real war IMHO.
