Ive had an accident at work today, using our dimension saw. Ive managed to remove part of my left index finger :-[, happened in a flash, first accident I have had in my 20 years of working in the cabinet making trade. I feel a total idiot for letting this happen, it was entirely my own fault, I had all guards in place, and correctly set, but somehow I managed to drop my finger into the back of the saw, removing the off cut from the timber I was cutting. I'm pissed off to say the least.

Ive now got to have numerous visits to our local NHS center for treatment, they cannot stitch the wound as the flesh has been removed ,it's got to heal on its own, which they say will takes weeks, its a right mess, I feel a right prat and my boss is not happy because of the time I have got to have off.

For gods sake if you are going to use a circular saw, ALWAYS use a push stick(I normally do, but was rushed at the time), if I had done so I would not be sat here with a VERY sore finger. >:(

Sorry to hear that. Will you have to sell the Stradivarius?

LOL @ Nick, it just so bloody sore mate, been taking pain killers since it happened.  At least I didn't lose the finger completely, just the tip and nail.

Sorry to hear about that Leaat23. Not a pleasent experience I'm sure.

My wife was pruning in the back yard a few years ago with her brand new set of delux pruners. She reaches high up on the bush and then just as she is about to squeeze the pruners gets distracted by something. She prunes off the tip of her finger about the same as you Leaat23. She takes the tip to the hospital and like you, it was not possible to sew it back on. It had to grow back over the open wound from all sides. It too a while. The good news is that it's fine now, but very sensative to touch. Oh...and thank god the dog didn't pick it up and eat it, cause he was running around like a mad fool after it happened. Look after it, it will heal, and be careful with what you do at work while it's healing. The bandage will make it even more prone to getting caught on something.  I'm a mechanic and I know how valuable your hands and fingers are to you.
Are you a guitar player Leaat23?

Thanks for all you thoughts, luckly I'm not a guitar player. I've got to go see my doctor now as he changed my medication last Thursday and I feel this may have contributed to the accident.

Cheers
