I have just been listening to the news and heard this.....

"To help the prison overcrowding situation, the government is going to release some prisoners early, to ease the problem. Because of this early release and the possible disruption it may cause, they will get monetary compensation"

I am totally speechless............

It saddens me to be part of this weak, liberal minded country we call home. We once had an empire (I'm not saying I agree with what that stood for), now we seem powerless to stand up for what the majority believe in. Diversity only works if the people you force it on agree with it. And I am sorry if I offend any liberal minded people, with these comments, but how can rewarding a criminal promote harmony in any society?

Like you I speechless - Monetary compensation for being let out early !?!?!?! That's yours and mine f**king money they're pissing up against the wall here

Monetary compensation for mugging old ladies - stealing cars - fraud - anti social behaviour. ??? ???  This country has gone to the dogs, the justice system is not working and the people doing the crime are getting away with it.  Bring back the rope  and get the murderers and paedophiles swinging, this would free up the space needed to lock the other lot up. Another alternative is prison ships, but for some reason the government don't want to use these, probably something to do with human right of the prisoners(they don't deserve any rights anyway), put the ships in the middle of the Atlantic.

Not sure I can go along with all of that leaat23. We as a society need to treat prisoners with the respect some of them don't deserve. I would draw the line way before paying them to leave prison though.

The fact  that we are putting more people in prison than we ever did would suggest that we are not a liberal state. I agree that a forseeable in-balance has occurred and we are having to adopt a far from satisfactory short term solution but we are also buildind more prison places than we ever have done before. It is frustrating to hear of things like this but the bigger picture suggests that we are being tougher on crime. The media love to stir us up by giving out misleading reports.
