apparently it is midnight on the 1st July the ban comes into force....

are they going to suddenly say to people at midnight that they have to put them out/go outside? sure that'll go down well to someone who has a skinful!

I gave up 7 years ago but it doesn't bother me one way or another if people want to smoke, especially in pubs.
Are we nearly there yet?

I don't think it will be a problem, it's worked everywhere it's been introduced so far and even the majority of smokers in those countries have agreed it's a move forward.

Bring it on I say, I have never smoked and it has prevented me from going to many a gig at my local venue (Mr Kyps). It's long overdue and why on earth did it take 18 months to implement? Because we are a weak, liberal minded country.........

As you may have guessed, I am 100% in favour of this and can't wait to sit in parts of some of my favourite pubs which I haven't been able to thanks to the number of old men who just sit there smoking one after the other and not much else.

100% behind the ban, won't it be great to go for a night out and not come back smelling like an ashtray, I've never smoked and can't stand to have smoke around me.  There have been reports of pubs making MORE profit AFTER the smoking ban came in in Ireland, so it must work.

You are so right there leaat - I am a regular visitor to Ireland and can confirm the pubs are still packed to the gunnel's. In fact a lot like the ban (smokers that is), as it has started what's known as 'Smirting' (smoking/flirting). All the pubs have an area where the smokers congregate and this of course leads to conversation and all the other things that we humans engage in!

The only comment that girls seem to make, is that now the pubs don't stink of smoke and smell fresh, it really stands out now when the boys fart!
