Yep, Canada celebrated its 140 birthday on July first. Canada became Canada on July 1st 1867....in fact I think I was there then!

Yeah - I heard about Canada Day on the radio a couple of days ago Bob. They could have timed it to coincide with your birthday though!!  ;D

Steve Wright, the afternoon presenter on BBC Radio 2, included it in one of his fact snippets.

By the way Bob. Mrs Mike and I had dinner with some friends last week and two of the other guests had recently got back from their holiday in Canada. They were in your neck of the woods over on the west coast. From what they had to say it sounds like you live in a bloody nice place. One of their highlights was going on a whale watch and they got lucky and saw a pod, youngsters and all. Apparently, there are many who do that trip and see naff all, so they considered themselves very fortunate.

How I would love to catch sight of a whale. I got really excited the first time I spotted a seal many years ago.
Are we nearly there yet?

There are several whale watching tours you can take out of Victoria, and I've been twice. It's amazing. There are permenant pods of killer whales that live near here that generally you can see if you go out. However, there are also many pods that migrate up to Alaskan Waters this time of year, and you are lucky if you get to see them.

BTW, If any of you have friends that are in this neck of the woods, get them to contact me while they are here!

Alaskan Waters....isn't that one of Rogers kids??!!
