TOPIC: Hurricane Dean

Hurricane Dean 4 years, 9 months ago #1

That's a really big storm, you have to feel for the poor local people. I've been watching it develop via this terrific website - vital site if anyone is planning a holiday in the Caribbean from July to November. I first found it in 2005 when Hurricane Wilma wiped out Cancun in Mexico, 2 weeks before we were supposed to go. Virgin moved us to the Bahamas instead.
Take a look, fascinating stuff:

He is a monster and I monitor the storms very closely as I used to live in the Cayman Islands and have some very close friends out there. They were very worried about this one, especially after Hurricane Ivan. It was interesting to see that the BBC mentioned Cayman a lot more this time round! The residents were livid the last time, as the islands were hardly mentioned and they suffered catastrophic damage - the beeb always harps on about 'British Holidaymakers' in Jamaica, but there are 20,000 British passport holders resident in the Caymans and the islands are part of the commonwealth!

Very interesting talking to my friends over the weekend, hearing what they had been doing to prepare - we moan about the rain here, but a hurricane is something else. I have only been in a Cat 3 storm and it's very, very scary (but we did have a terrific Hurricane party!).
