Our normally quiet street had two houses and a car broken into last night, one of the houses was our next door but one neighbour. I was awakened at 5.30am and told that all the lights were on in the house and the rear window was wide open, seeing as they are away on holiday something was wrong. Upon closer inspection the window had been forced with a screwdriver and the keys left in the outside of the back door, obviously a spare set inside the house and used for a quick exit even though they have a very bright security light in the back yard!!!

The scum bags had thrown everything out of cupboards ETC and that was just what I could see through the back door, god knows what else they had done as I did not enter the property and no one knows what has been taken yet. It sickens me to think that anyone could do this. The car belonged to the other house that was burgled, seems like they took the keys and got into the car and couldn't start it, it was left with the drivers door open and the rear hatch open, speakers had been nicked out the parcel shelf and stuff thrown around inside the car. There was also another burglary on an adjacent street.

So the police were called at around 5.45 and they told me that they could not come to the scene within the next half hour because of other events in the night, in fact I went to work at 7.15 and the police had still not arrived, eventually they arrived at 8.00 and spent most of the morning with other neighbours securing the property.

The house belongs to an elderly couple and I know this will devastate them, they are in France with their Daughter. They both fort in the war and I'll bet the shits what did this to them would run a mile from any kind of war situation.

I have been out today and got a new alarm system for our house as our other one works but is getting old, also we are going to sort out a neighbourhood watch scheme with the Police, whether this works is another story. I use smart water to tag all my valuables including my car, its an invisible liquid that glows under UV lighting and has its own, unique to me, code that can be traced be to the rightful owner of the items and leads to a 100% conviction in court, it has an annual subscription fee but is worth the peace of mind that it gives.

Everyone is now on hot pins and every time our security light comes on in the back I'm watching for people in the garden. Cricket bat at the ready under the bed > > I know if they put one step in our house and if I catch them they will not live to see the light of day again, I know this sounds strong but it's the way I feel about it. >

I'm so sorry to hear about that.  My brother's home was burglarized a few years ago.  My brother lost all his tools (he is a carpenter) and a lot of family heirlooms.  My brother came in the front door and put his 2 year old baby down just inside the door.  The baby ran off and that is when my brother realized everything was a mess.  The back door was open and they had taken anything of any value.  The worse part is wondering if they would have hurt the baby if they were still there.  They also killed poisoned the dog.  The whole family was devastated.  We all had security systems installed.  It is just sickening.  I hate to hear about this sort of thing.

Oh hell that's terrible Lea. We went through some trouble a year or two back when we had a neighbour, who was not to be trusted,  and then a couple of B&E's happened not to far from us. So we got an alarm system. It's a monitored one by a local company. It's fantastic to know that when we are out, if the place gets broken into that the police get called. Also the fire alarm is monitored too. It seemed like a lot of money at the time but peace of mind came afterwards, and we are so glad we did this. It's awful when you don't feel safe in your own neighborhood.

Cheers

5 years ago we were burgled big time at 4.15am while all 5 of us were in bed. It was one of those rare english summer night when you just leave a little window ajar, in they came found the front door keys & hey everything out, It was like the generation game conveyor belt: tv,speakers, computer, dyson vac, iron, alcohol, 3 lots of kids dinner money left out plus mars bars , cans of coke, DVD's, Cd's you name they took it. It took the police 1 week to realise the man they had arrested at 7.am for 3 other jobs on the same night was our burgler too. Busy man unfortunatley for him one of the houses he did was an ex copper. At least he got 3 years, got of the drugs so we were told & we got paid out to the sum of £13500.00. Needless to say I did't sleep for weeks, fortunatley 5 months later we moved.

Bast**ds !
Most of this kind of crime is committed in order to fuel a drug habit, when caught the culprits should get a hard time NOT sympathy.

Been busy today fitting window locks and a new alarm system, the house feels a little more secure now

It would appear that a few days ago some bloke was caught sniffing around gardens posing as a gas fitter / inspector we are wondering if he was 'casing' the area for a return later, he had an ID tag on his coat but anyone can replicate them nowadays with PC's.

Everyone in the area seems to be in favour of a neighbourhood watch scheme, we have a police officer live at the top of the street and we are going to arrange something through him, hopefully this will act as some form of deterrent.

pbnitemare, that's a bloody terrible thought, if they are prepared to poison a dog then god only knows just what they would do to a child.

Everyone is very aware that scum bags are operating around our area now, and I for one have taken a few steps today to stop a break in on our property, but some say but don't do!!!!
