We are having tremendous problems with Royal Mail and the postal service, we get mail delivered every 2-3 days if we are lucky, mail turns up late that should have been delivered a week ago   we don't live in a rural area, in fact we have the main sorting office for the whole of our area just a mile down the road.

I rent DVD's via the post , last month I got just 4 DVD's on an unlimited plan, before the strike I was renting 10-12 DVD a month, this was value for money. Surly the back log has now been cleared. Items we send are taking up to two weeks to reach their destination and some of these are local > .

Our local Post Office is also being shut down as part of the cut backs

Anyone else having problems with RM ??

The Postal workers are the same as the miners were in the 70's they are being set on a suicide mission by their union leaders.
Its to be expected really, they voted in blinkered left wingers to lead them.Political dogma never saved anybodies job ??
I waited six days for a package posted by first class mail to arrived a few days ago.Crap service.

Unfortunately the Royal Mail has been left high and dry by deregulation of the industry.

DHL / UPS / TNT etc etc etc are free to compete the open market in the areas they can make a profit in, whilst the Royal Mail have been left legally obliged to continue with the postal service as we know it with post boxes on every street corner. They're also limited as to how much they can charge for this service by legislation - concrete wellies for them !

It's no wonder the service is in disarray, this together with the unions as BD has highlighted gives them a huge disadvantage.

Speaking of the Post Office, anybody else annoyed at the current tv ads (UK only) showing how marvellous it is to go to your local Post
Office ........assuming that you can find one in the first place? >

I like the current ad's which are funny. I agree it's difficult to find a post office that is still trading nowadays but I don't want to subsidise a chain of Post Offices that are running at a loss. Most of what the Post offices have to offer can be found on line or at local shops, banks and supermarkets. It's market forces I'm afraid.
Are we nearly there yet?

But isn't it nice to just walk around the corner to your local Post Office and be able to post parcels ETC without the need to jump in the car?? Some small villages around our area are going to face a15 mile round trip just to visit the local PO when their office shuts down and some of the PO's that are shutting DO make a profit ???

I wonder how much the ad's cost the PO??

Has anyone tried to use a courier when you are a private customer?? it costs a bloody fortune. I recently had to return a large car amplifier for repair,  one of the large couriers wanted £30 to deliver the package on a 3 day schedule , so tried the PO they wanted £17 for a next day delivery, traceable and insured.
