Today has been a very sad day for us, we had to have our beloved old cat, Ben, put to sleep after a long battle for health :'(, he was 17.
He had several teeth out at the beginning of December and all seemed fine, he came through the operation fine. Then after a few days he started refusing food so we took him back to the vets, this his front canine had gone into his lower lip, so that was also removed and again he seemed well. Then after another week or so he started moaning whilst eating, so back to the vets he went and painkiller was given, they then found to our horror what looked like a blister on his side, the fur was shaved off and treatment given, this seemed to be healing OK but we don't know exactly what it was, we were told it could have been a tumour.
Then last Saturday we took him back for a check up, he had started moaning again whilst eating so an oral painkiller was given, we were told by the vet that this could effect his kidneys, we got him home and he started eating like a horse. Unfortunately on Wednesday morning he started refusing food again and was very listless, we have had cats before and seen this in there final days, this morning we took him to the vet after he started fitting and it was obvious he was in terrible pain. The vet told us, as we expected, that there was nothing he could do apart from end his suffering, he died peacefully and quietly. He is now buried in our garden along side our other cats that we have had, we are heartbroken at the moment :'( :'( :'(
