Well it's replacement may be sooner than you think;

(groan) Here we go again........So what sort of mega-computer will we need to 'upgrade' to this time? If this is indeed true then the whole Microsoft operating system thing is just becoming a complete p*ss-take.

BAD VISTA - Defective by design

Personally, I think if you read between the lines, it's clear that Vista has not been a resounding success for Microsoft and I think they are desperate to 'repackage/bin' it. I was reading an article last week that claims it has been the companies biggest disaster since Windows ME (Millennium Edition) and is being hailed the second worst operating system ever (and before you jump down my throat NickĀ  , those are not my words, but those of the journalist who wrote the article).

The take up so far has been disproportionally low compared to other new releases of the Windows OS, when you compare it to the number of PC sales. I think the most telling fact is that a major company like DELL is still offering customers the choice of Windows XP on many if it's new machines, well over 12 months after Vista's launch! CNET rated Vista as one of the top 10 most terrible technology products of 2007 and even Microsoft's lowering of the retail price in Feb 2008 has failed to boost sales.

So it seems that Microsoft has already given up on Vista and is setting up business users to switch from XP to Windows 7. Vista cost them $6 Billion US Dollars to develop and a workforce of 8,000, but since it's release they have had a drop in the market share of OS sales, whilst Apples 'Leopard' OS has had an increase in market share. There is no doubt that visually it is a big improvement on XP, but you need a powerful machine to even match XP's performance, yet alone beat it. Hence the reason so many business users switched back to XP, as productivity was suffering.

Technically, Vista for many is pure misery (just ask Bigdog?). It devours system resources like an elephant eats peanuts and Aero drains laptop batteries as well as needing over 1GB of memory to run effectively. Many Windows applications break and its so called improved security is a total mess. I know it, you know it, even Microsoft's most devoted followers know it (although they won't admit it) and perhaps now Microsoft knows it? This news for me confirms it - VISTA is a dog............. long live XP and hurry along Windows 7!!!!

Anyone remember the lemon call Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, yet another O/S that dissapeared very quickly and was replaced by XP, which I am still running on all our computers without any problems.

Vista is just a complicated version of XP. Why did they do that?
I run XP on all computers in the house apart from my laptop which is Vista. In fairness the laptop is fab but setting stuff up is a nightmare come on Microsoft sort your self's out.
Shorter of breath & one day closer to death!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope that Windows 7 does'nt require massive upgrades. I mean it is getting a bit much to expect people to have to upgrade everytime a new OS is released. What's wrong with having a nice and shiny OS that can still run on the majority of new-ish pc's?
