TOPIC: Adware/Malware

Adware/Malware 4 years, 1 month ago #1

Well, they finally got me  :'(  >
My screen froze on Monday night and something began installing itself onto my hard disk, arrghh! So, I tried to reboot, nothing, then turned off the power. When I went back in some anti-adware software had installed itself and my internet connection was shafted. Trying to locate and remove the malware before I try to get back connected to broadband.  :G
If anyone has any helpful advice, it would be appreciated. [posted from work]

Hi Raikeswood

I subscribe to The Motley Fool (www.fool.co.uk).  They have a really good forum for computer problems - Help with this blasted Computer.  This thread may be of use (or it may not).  The poster named MFDnNC is a bit of an authority on malware.

Hope that helps

I just use spybot. I check for updates regularly.

Give this a go. I run it from time to time in addition to the AV/Spyware protection on my PCs.

I run 2 spyware/ad-ware programs, one being Spybot and the other is NoAdware, what one can't find the other one does. I also run Norton Internet Security 2008.

Having said that I did have a piece of malware get in on my desktop PC, this computer is a dual core 2.4ghz system and the malware managed to run the CPU at 50% all the time, I did manage to track it down to a small file inside system 32 in windows explorer, had to delete it in safe mode and then all was fine again.

If these people are so clever then why are they not working to improve software, not bugger it up for everyone >
