TOPIC: Wiltshire cured???

Wiltshire cured??? 4 years, 1 month ago #1

I bought a sandwich yesterday on which the label said "Wiltshire cured ham". Why on earth would I give a flying f**k where my ham was cured? It could have been in a huge factory in the middle of an industrial estate and done with a toxic chemical riddled process, but I'm supposed to be impressed that it was in Wiltshire.

Bloody marketing people ought to get proper jobs instead of lowering the quality of our lives with their inane drivel.

Grumpy, moi?

Well actually 'Wiltshire Cure' does in fact mean something. It's not particularly from Wiltshire, it means it's been cured a certain way, the method originated in Wiltshire hence the name.

So you are buying ham that has been cured using brine, as opposed to a sweet cure or dry cure ham which all have their own individual tastes. The name means more than coming from Wiltshire and it's likely your ham has never even been anywhere near Wiltshire!
