It is finally here

I missed the full opening ceremony, but from what I heard on the radio (continuous gasps of amazement), and saw this evening on the highlights, it was pretty spectacular.

Of course, it has just dawned on me that I will miss most of the action with China being several hours ahead of us, but I'll try to watch as much as I can.

I managed to watch an hour between 1-00 and 2-00 this afternoon, most spectacular.
Can political protests stop now? The 2008 Olympic Games has to be dedicated to the ordinary hard working people of China. Let them enjoy the attention of the world . They deserve to ?

How did Sarah Brightman get in on the act  :

It was alright until she started singing!
Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes ...

I thought that was one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen, mesmerising in places, very tastefully and beautifully executed - I always expected as much and we are going to struggle to follow that! I have a soft spot for China having been there for the last 2 years and will be celebrating my 50th birthday there in November. I echo Steve's views and lets celebrate it in spirit with the Chinese people. I heard a friend say this year she didn't like the Chinese because of Tibet, but the people are fantastic, the hardest working most honest people I have met, we all have to endure our governments and shouldn't condemn a nation because of it's leaders?

This promises to be an exciting 2 weeks and they as a Nation have worked hard to impress the world - well they've done that alright. A truly fantastic job China and good luck in the competition, you deserve to be richly rewarded.

Finally.................. you are so right Sue! I actually turned over when Sarah Brightman came on - just couldn't bear to watch her!
