TOPIC: CAR PARKING - Be careful!

CAR PARKING - Be careful! 3 years, 9 months ago #1

I received this e-mail doing the rounds, be careful!

"Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for petrol. Luckily my friend told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for
me to get out of the car. Then we received this email yesterday:

'WARNING FROM WEST MIDLANDS POLICE. BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE - NEW WAY TO DO CAR JACKINGS (THIS IS NOT A JOKE)'

.. You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rear view mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into neutral,  unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and
family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please pass this on.

That email has been going around for years! I think I remember seeing it first in the late 90s.
Hello and thanks for having me.

It's another hoax, I'm afraid. The idiots that send these "warnings" get their kicks out becoming famous by getting thousands of people to forward them.

Well even if it is a repeat, its a good thing to spread around and to have in your mind when you are in your car? Even if it's false, it makes you more vigilant to potential other problems. High value car thefts are on the increase (trust me I know). Our local high level crooks now target cars and steal to order - the methods they devise to part the vehicle from you are very ingenious and often violent - it's over before you know what's happened. Just don't ever get out of your car for a second with it insecure.

Here's one I actually watched - guy pulls up outside a house to pick something up. Kills the engine, but leaves the key in the ignition and opens the tailgate. He then walks down the drive to get what he was collecting, at that precise moment the scally is passing as a passenger in his girlfriends car, sees the car jumps out and into the waiting car. He was off in seconds! Luckily the old bill was behind him - he's now doing time! Opportunist crime is very common, it you present an opportunity, there are some people who just cannot resist it and are sometimes waiting for it?
