Last night of the Proms tonight and we shall soon be leaving for the Proms in the Park with tickets and Union Flags in hand. It's not a Union Jack because it's not hanging from a jack staff OK?    Anyway, we are taking a picnic too so it's going to be all rather jolly. I shall take my camera with me but might not be arsed to take photos, we'll see.

This is the line up but the 'special guest' sucks so we're taking books and iPods so as not to suffer bleeding ears.

José Carreras tenor
Lesley Garrett soprano
David Garrett violin
Special Guest - Sharleen Spiteri
Sir Terry Wogan presenter
BBC Concert Orchestra
Martin Yates conductor

Bellowhead
Bjorn Again
Teatro
Early evening entertainment presented by Aled Jones.

A good old stuffing of culture and tradition eh.
Hello and thanks for having me.

The last hour of the Last Night Of The Proms is something i seem to flick on every year. It creates such an atmosphere in the Royal Albert Hall and at the Proms In The Park events. That is coming from someone who is not a classical music fan.

I quite like some Texas songs and Sharleen Spiteri as a vocalist but she is strange to see at a Proms event.
I love Aussie Floyd. Simple as that lol.

I've watched a fair few of the proms this year - I particularly enjoyed Jeff Beck.

I like the last night too - Elgar and Beethoven can touch a nerve like no others.

However, I hate all those silly cocks who bob up and down blow 'comical' air horns to the sea shanty bits.

My message to them -
"It was funny the first time all those years ago but now you all just look like idiots, so stop it you pretentious dicks."

I have to disagree with you here Enigma, it wouldn't be last night of the proms if it wasn't for all the pretentious dicks! That's what it's all about. It's tradition and it's what makes Britain eccentrically Great... imo.

I must admit I love classical music and go to around 10-20 concerts a year, but I cannot warm to the proms - I never watch it and wouldn't consider going. I'm not really sure why, maybe because it's always the same and a lot of the music is 'pop' classical, which is again not to my taste.

However, it looks a lot of fun and if that's your thing it must be a great night out. As Lorna says, very "British"  :-\. I did however watch Proms in the Park, to see Sue Perkins conducting. A great achievement and well done to her.
