Just moving over from another thread - essentially, looking for recommendations of either good ales (not the canned lager crap!) or places that sell well kept ales in your region

My suggestion for Leicester (or just outside) is the Cow & Plough

(see the end of this thread) www.tapfs.com/forum/index.php/topic,19.2340.html

By the way, does anyone on here brew their own?

My Dad used to brew his own but that was years ago now. I do enjoy a pint of real ale, one of my favorites has to be Gem which is a Bath Ales beer  www.bathales.com/ but unfortunately I've not seen it in London yet. I'm feeling quite thirsty now!
Hello and thanks for having me.

Is this a good idea ? After all every bodies tastes are different.
It does though make me feel only pity towards somebody who says I don't like beer I only drink lager its much better..... Lager eh, fizzy pale yellow water that is cheap to make then has a very high profit margin on its resale and takes absolutely no skill at  all to keep and serve ! Don't ever mention Keg beers. How does a man actually enjoy drinking a pint of John Smith Smooth plastic p1ss ? That is one of life's great mysteries.
One or two of my favourite beers are  Hook Norton Hooky Gold and Nobby's BreweryWild West Ale and one more Hopback Summer Lightning.

The Cambridge Rock festival at Wood Green animal shelter, Godmanchester near Huntingdon is a good place to ease a few down.
Especially if TAPFS are playing there as they did in 2007. One side of the arena is a long bar serving real ales, many different varieties with the barrels stacked up against the wall. Formerly known as the 'Rockin' Beerfest'.

Around these parts, I like a drop of Adnams 'Broadside' now and then, from the Adnams brewery at Southwold Suffolk.

I agree on the Adnams - was lucky enough to have a long weekend staying just outside Southwold last year and I was so impressed with the Adnams I had to keep buying more to ensure it was consistent from the first to the last.  Not even a hangover the following day!!  ;D
