I have just been reading a review of Windows 7 on another forum I visit and it seems favourable, so for the Vista haters amongst us, it may be time to move on from Windows XP soon. The article is worth a read if you are interested in Windows O/S, but unfortunately as stated in the article, you can no longer download a free Beta version of Windows 7. This was only available to the first 2.5 million downloads, which has now been reached.

Interesting review mind you:

Interesting reading.
Looking back though we were all told that vista was going to be the all singing all dancing dogs bolxs of operating systems. Oh how far from the truth that claim turned out to be ?

Well I suspect Nick will fall off his chair when he reads this from me, but to be fair to Microsoft, it's not that Vista is a bad operating system per se, it's just not what people seemed to want as an upgrade from XP. Windows XP was a great success and proved very stable after initial teething problems and as it's been around for a longtime, people have got used to it. Vista IMO failed due to being far to resource hungry for home based affordable hardware and by not proving to be as efficient as XP, in running familiar tasks and software. You certainly wouldn't expect a new operating system to perform slower on your machine than the old one?

But on modern powerful machine's once you get used to it, Vista is a good OS. But it is very different in many ways, especially security, so people got annoyed and frustrated trying to work through simple tasks, that previously had not been a problem with XP. Change can be a hard thing to accept sometimes  :-\ I think Microsoft just underestimated their market and went too far from something that people liked and were comfortable with.

I obtained a copy of Windows 7 yesterday, which is still a Beta trial version, but is now apparently very close to being the release candidate. I will be installing it on a test bed over the next few days and trying to break it!

So far reports from the IT community are proving very positive and it solves the issues that have plagued Vista. It is reported to be stable, very compatible driver wise and faster than both Vista and XP.

I will let you know how I get on, but so far it's getting a big thumbs up from the Geeks!
