This summer will see the reformation of the Groove Merchants with Carl Brunsdon on sax, bass player Fabian Bonner, drummer Paul Murfin and guitarist Matt Bishop for a major road trip across Europe to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the UK's leading children's cancer charity.

The band will be taking part in the 'Ramshackle Rally' from Calais to Krakow running from 6th - 10th August. This is a seriously long way and hotel stop offs include Strasbourg, Innsbruck and Bratislava. Sounds simple? Unfortunately, the rule of the rally is that you are not allowed to spend more than £150 on a vehicle. Yep.

Check out further details at the official site:

Naturally, the hotel stop offs include full on parties each night and the band will be entertaining the teams with their own brand of off the peg funk and groove.

In order to make this rally happen we're asking for donations to assist us in our quest. Any pledges will be greatly received and you will have your name or logo proudly painted on our vehicle which will appropriately be called [The Bandwagon]. £50 will buy us a tank of gas and £25 a bed for the night.

We've also set up a 'justgiving' page for charity donations:

This is serious, we really are going to travel across Europe in a rubbish car, playing funk to the masses.
