TOPIC: It's the future

It's the future 2 years, 3 months ago #1

DivX TV, a new embedded Internet TV platform, launched at CES. It's like a Sky or Freesat box, except all the content comes from the internet instead of being broadcast. Interesting.

My nephew is planning on ditching his cable TV subscription and using the internet to download all of his TV watching content.

This has got me thinking, the BBC rip us off with their licence fee and whenever you buy a new TV or Free view box ETC you will be asked to fill in a form that is then passed to the BBC's licensing department, this way they can keep track of who has and has not got a licence.

So if we use a computer to download or watch TV programs, BBC iPlayer springs to mind here, then how are they(the BBC) going to make sure people downloading their programs have a TV licence, I'm not talking about computers with TV cards fitted, just strictly downloading. I can see the BBC starting to charge for this on-line service eventually >

When every household has at least one computer just you wait and see, we'll all need some kind of a permit to stay on line.....its already started with the BT tax to provide for fast broadband connections for all. Isn't it something like an extra £6/year on our phone bills ?

Yeh, I forgot about that one, 50p a month extra on your BT bill and will we ever get high speed broadband to every house in the UK?? Somehow I think not.
