OK,  following on from the Vatican top 10 link, I've succumbed to starting the topic, but choose 5 rather than 10 - the reason being that there's too much deliberation if there's too much choice.  So for me, I know what my top 5 albums are and in their order for me - any more and it would take too long to decide:  No explanations - just a list will do

1.  Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
2.  Ian Dury - New Boots & Panties
3.  Radiohead - OK Computer
4.  David Bowie - Hunky Dory
5.  Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

Ah, a list ! This could run forever.......my list is better than your list etc.... ;D
If I were to submit a list I could guarantee that I'd need to  change it almost as soon as I'd pressed the SAVE button. With over 40 years worth of albums to choose from its an impossible task.

I'm going out for a couple of days, so I'll wade in with mine when I get back.

Ok... This has certainly made my day a little bit more interesting, chewing over my top 5... Then putting them into an order...

1. Meddle - Pink Floyd (My 1st introduction to Floyd. Thought it was the best thing I have ever heard, and I still cherish this more than any Floyd album)
2. On The Beach - Neil Young (My personal choice from my 2nd favourite artist/band. This is perfect for me as it is a mix of his rock and acoustic side, not only that, but possibly 3/4 of the songs on here are just simply stunning. Not a bad song from start to finish)
3. Fear Of A Blank Planet - Porcupine Tree (Brilliant album from a brilliant band. I could have chosen from at least 4 other albums, but this one I have listened to nonstop recently. Love every song, and I am always blown away by Anesthetize)
4. Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix (Awsome. The man at the peak of his powers. Mixing the best of the previous albums. His guitar work at times is simply mind boggling, and how underrated his voice is too)
5. A Northern Soul - The Verve (This is the one album from the days of my early to late teens that I still hold with high regard and return to on a regular basis. At the time, Oasis were my favourite band, I almost put Definitely Maybe in ahead of this, until I realized that I haven't actually listened to that in around 2 years, such as my music tastes have changed! Northern Soul is The Verve at there best. Mixing hard, psychedelic drug endused space rock with beautiful string led acoustic moments. Richard Ashcroft also possesses one of, if not the finest vocal I have ever heard)

I didn't even read through your post, just replied. Please forgive me, I have been very bored and this helped to fuel my imagination.

I'm not going to include Pink Floyd albums:

1: Led Zeppelin - IV
2: Radiohead - The Bends
3: Kings of Leon - Only by the Night
4: Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
5: Green Day - American Idiot

5 was very hard to pick and I had to leave out loads of great albums
