Just thought I'd let anyone living within driving distance of the theatre in Hinckley, Leicestershire that there's currently a 1 week production run of "Working" - a musical based on the book similarly titled by Studs Terkel on until Saturday night. We went last night and were very pleasantly surprised by the production (the Tinhatters Company) and the quality of the music and acting. Essentially its the individual stories of 26 American workers and their lot in life. Ranging in occupations from Construction, education, housewife, telephone exchange worker etc through to a paper boy and Mexican farm labourer, it builds a powerful story of the pride and hardships most ordinary workers face, and at the same time, the pride they take in their work. What's clear at the end is that none of them want the same for their children.
If you have an evening free, I would suggest you go and see it or anywhere else it happens to be on over time. A thoroughly pleasant and insighful evening
