A moment of reminiscence... For about the first three hours of broadcasting on the morning after John Lennon was killed, BBC Radio Merseyside (for non-UK people that's the BBC's local Liverpool station) was playing on rotation my collection of his records. A friend working at the station had phoned me at about 4am, told me the news and asked if they could send someone round in a cab to pick up any Lennon discs I had, because they'd found that he only thing they had in their library was a copy of "Imagine" and they needed something to tide them over until the shops opened! I sort of think of that as my small contribution to the wake...
I have this feeling that, had he lived on, his work would have continued to sell well without being either spectacular or particularly significant... much like that of George and Macca. DOUBLE FANTASY has never struck me as the work of a man who had a great deal left to say.
