A few days ago I sat with a friend who is now 70. All the rock music of the 60's through the 90's he mostly ignored and now is just having a second and more open minded look. He is a huge Floyd and Aussie Floyd fan as a result of talking to me. He asked me today who I thought the 10 most influential and memorable rocks acts were of the 60's through to today.

My answer was ...in no particular order.

Pink Floyd.
The Beatles.
The Who.
The Rolling Stones.
Elton John.
Abba (yes I said this, and I like them!)
Supertramp.
The Eagles
Eric Clapton (and Cream)
David Bowie.

OK....there are others, but these guys certainly have stood the test of time. I'd probably change my list now, but that was my initial start. What do you think?

Interesting... "influential" and "memorable".

I would consider Gwar and Rockbitch memorable acts, but not very influential... however the Ramones, The Doors, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, and The Greatful Dead would all be contenders in both categories.

Ever notice that most of these contenders are British bands????

Abba (yes I said this, and I like them!)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Abba mind.

Now this is getting interesting, because this friend of mine will probably go and buy a whole crap load of, "best of" CD's and check all this out!

Hmmm...most influential......tricky one.......BUT to me it would be (in no particular order);

The Beatles
Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
The Bonzo Dog Doodah Band (Kidding...honest)
Queen
Nirvana (Not a great fan myself but it was the start of the 'Grunge' period)
Sex Pistols
The Rolling Stones
Bill Hailey And The Comets (Who influenced a LOT of the bands we listen to still)
