TOPIC: My all time top 20 most influential albums??

My all time top 20 most influential albums?? 4 years ago #1

I read the great thread on top 10 most influential bands and had to think up my own 'personal' top Twenty most influential albums that influenced me personally. Some of these albums would in my opinion be  some of the most influential albums ever some are personal. I have decided to include ONLY one album for each band mentioned and tried to cover a wide selection of my musical tastes to keep the list more realistic to me. Would you include o any of those I choose in your own personal list? What would be your top twenty most influential?  Why not add your list and if you wish you can state why they are influential to you. Might spark some interesting discussions?

Here's mine.(not in any specific order)

Pink Floyd          - Dark Side of the Moon
Beatles              - Sergent Pepper
Meatloaf            - Bat out of Hell
Fleetwood Mac    -Rumours
Micheal Jackson  - Thriller
Rush                  - 2112
Yes                      -Fragile
Led Zeppelin          -Presence
Genesis                -Lamb Lies Down
Sex Pistols            - Never mind the Bollocks
Camel                    - A live Record
UFO                        - Strangers in the Night.
Abba                        - Arrival
Bent                          -Programmed to Love
Simply Red              - Picture Book
Coldplay                    -Parachutes
The Verve                    -Urban Hymns
Oasis                            -(What's the Story) Morning Glory
Deep Purple                    - Live in Japan
U2                                  - Joshua Tree

Think thats twenty....lost count their. All the above have influenced my musical taste/direction at sometime or other and are important mile stones in my musical interest. Their are many others I could have included but its difficult to shorten your list to just twenty. Iam not stating these are the twenty most influential albums in music history. This is a personal list of what influenced me.......feel free to add your own.

The most influential albums weren’t necessarily the best by their respective bands or artists; they just hit the spot at a point in time. So these are not all my favourite albums by each artist, but the ones I think have had the most influence.

Bob DylanHighway 61 Revisited
Simon and GarfunkelParsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme
The BeatlesSgt Pepper
CreamDisraeli Gears
Jimi HendrixAre You Experienced
King CrimsonIn the Court of the Crimson King
King CrimsonLarks Tongues in Aspic
Led ZepLed Zep I
The WhoTommy
David BowieHunky Dory
GenesisFoxtrot
Stevie WonderTalking Book
Pink FloydDSOTM
Bruce SpringsteenBorn to Run
David BowieHeroes
BlondieParallel Lines
U2Joshua Tree
The WaterboysFisherman’s Blues
NirvanaNevermind
Jeff BuckleyGrace

It occurred to me while I was compiling this list that only King Crimson and David Bowie deserve to be in twice because they so completely reinvented themselves that the second of each listed albums was a) in no way derivative of the first and b) influenced different genres. My second thought was that it's a shame I couldn't think of anything from after 1994 to include (the list is in chronological order).
